Welcome to the internet home of Joe Monahan, one of Chicagolands's favorite Irish entertainers. Joe grew up on Chicago's Southside, the eighth of nine children. He became fond of all acoustic music, particularly the singer/songwriter's that became popular in Chicago during the 1970s, such as John Prine, Steve Goodman and Michael Smith. In the 1980's, Monahan discovered an area pub where traditional Irish music flourished. Some of the musicians at these "sessions" later became some of the most respected Irish musician's in the country. Amoung these were Liz Carroll, John Williams, Johnny McGreevy and Kevin Henry. Monahan soon picked up the guitar and began to embrace the ballads he heard from singers and recording artists. For the last 15 years he has entertained in Chicago area pubs and get-togethers of any kind where Irish music is requested. A three-time winner of the senior men's singing competition at the Midwest Fleadh Cheoil, he represented the U.S. at the All-Ireland competition held in Ballina, Mayo in 1998. In 2001 he released his debut CD "Stories To Tell".
